Chadbourne & Parke LLP represented MUFG Power and Utilities in connection with the debt financing for a utility scale solar PV project in southern California.
The financing for the 21 MW Blythe facility closed on June 25, making it the largest solar PV project in California and the second largest solar PV project in the United States in commercial operation.
Located in Riverside County, about 200 miles east of Los Angeles, the Blythe plant is the largest thin film PV project in the United States and is five times the size of the next largest PV project in California. The developer, NRG Energy, Inc., estimates that at peak capacity, the project can supply the power needs of almost 17,000 homes while helping California meet its renewable energy goals.
